Meghan Markle’s kind words as she’s seen in LA for first time wearing mask to deliver food

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been photographed for the first time since they moved to LA as they delivered food parcels to people unable to go outside due to coronavirus.

The couple wore facemasks and gloves as they dropped off packages on behalf of the Los Angeles-based nonprofit Project Angel Food to people with chronic illnesses.

The couple, who were casually dressed in jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps and trainers, were caught on CCTV as they buzzed the front door at the Sierra Bonita Community Apartments in West Hollywood.

The people they were delivering to had no warning of their famous helpers, and have revealed the kind words the couple said before handing over the food.

The delivered food to two residents, including Daniel Tyrell, 53, who came down from his fourth-floor apartment to pick up the delivery at the main entrance.

Daniel, who has HIV and issues with high blood pressure, said: “My phone rang and a lady said, ‘Hi this is Meghan from Project Angel Food.’

“I said, ‘Oh, do you want to meet me downstairs?’

“I didn’t realise it was THE Meghan at this point.

“So I walked down the external staircase and I saw the two black SUVs on the road outside so I knew there was something gong on.

“I went down to the front door to let them in.

“I recognised him first because of his reddish hair.

“Then I looked at her and put it together.

“Harry didn’t introduce himself or anything.

“They both said here’s the food and thank you, hope you’re well and that you’re fine.

“They handed the food over and I said thank you, too.

“I didn’t let on about it, I didn’t want to make them uncomfortable or anything.”

The couple arrived in their black SUV and were followed by another car containing their protection officers.

However they approached the front door alone.

Daniel added: “To have someone come and deliver the food is amazing, it makes us here feel that somebody cares outside.

“It’s also good for me and us here to have the people contact, too, because we’re here and self isolating.

“So for Harry and Meghan to do this is amazing.

“I have been a client of Project Angel Food for two years and I am on a blood pressure diet, which helps me.

“There’s two or three people in the building that get for from them.

“The deliveries usually come at 8.30 in the morning on a Wednesday, so when I got told it was being delivered later I thought that was strange.”

After announcing their plans to quit the royal family in January, the couple fled to Canada but have now moved to LA where they plan to set up home.

They are in the process of setting up a new charity venture, however have said it won’t launch until the “time is right”.

Speaking about having Meghan and Harry in the city, Daniel said: “You know, I hope they get a better reception here in LA than they have in the UK.

“They’re doing a great thing and I for one am very grateful.”

Benita Hood, who manages the building, took the day off to attend a physio appointment and was gutted to miss the royal visitors.

Benita said: “I can’t believe I took the day off!

“Oh my God I can’t believe they came to my building.

“Nobody knew they were coming, we had no idea. This building is named after me.

“There was no alert or anything.

“I had heard they were doing this kind of thing in LA but I had no idea it would be here.

“I’m lost for words.

“I am so sad to have missed them I just want to give her a hug and tell them awesome and good job and the decision they have made to come here is perfect.

“I love it, I love them.

“Considering the virus, it’s amazing they came out.”
